National Glass Clubs Meeting Held

Issue No. 182 - June 1988

The Spring meeting of the National Glass Clubs, hosted by the Fenton Art Glass Collectors of America, was held April 16, 1988 in Marietta, Ohio. Present at the meeting ware representatives of the Cambridge, N.D.G.A., and Fenton National Clubs. Clubs not in attendance were; Heisey, Imperial, Fostoria, Tiffin and Duncan.

The meeting was called to order by Bill Ehrsam. Janice Hughes reported that 125 applications for membership were received by utilization of the N.G.C. ad in thie DAZE. The breakdown was as follows: Fenton 19; Heisey 15; N.D.G.A. 30; Fostoria 27; Cambridge 5; Duncan 7; Tiffin 11; Imperial 11. It was the general consensus that the National Glass Clubs ad in the DAZE was beneficial and should be continued. The Cambridge club agreed to continue to be the clearing house for N.G.C. membership requests for another year.

Mailing procedures were discussed. Clubs present all mall their newsletters first class postage and felt it necessary to continue doing so. A question was raised as to the procedure used when receiving inquiries on glass evaluation. All Clubs present felt it unwise to give out estimates.

The merits of mail-in balloting were discussed. Cambridge and N.D.G.A. have mail-in balloting. Fenton is proposing this voting system at their annual meeting in August. All felt it was the most democratic way of voting.

The next meeting, to be hosted by National Imperial Glass Collectors, will be held October 15, 1988.
